WESTPORT–As part of the Juneteenth celebration, three Westport Black history walking tours will be offered free of charge this Friday, June 19, 2026.

The Westport Museum for History and Culture will run the tours, which are supported by the generosity of the sponsors, Westport Rotary and TEAM Westport.

The tours are based on the Museum’s award-winning exhibition, Remembered: The History of African Americans in Westport, which traces the stories of Black Westporters from the colonial era to the present day. Through original research, historic documents, and community scholarship, Remembered relates often-overlooked histories, highlighting the lives of enslaved people, free people of color, educators, artists, activists, veterans, and community leaders who helped shape Westport and the nation.

Participants will visit sites connected to Westport’s African American history while exploring stories that challenge traditional narratives and illuminate the contributions of generations of Black residents. The tour reflects the Museum’s mission to “make history whole.”
