
NORWALK–Staples girls tennis is off to a winning start at 3-0, behind a hard-fought 4-3 edging of visiting New Canaan on Monday and a pair of 7-0 road triumphs, at McMahon on Tuesday and Norwalk Thursday.
Against New Canaan, No. 2 singles player Amelia Berkowitz won 6-1, 6-3; No, 3. Adrianna Gavriloiu came out on top 6-2, 6-0 and No. 4 Kat Siegner won 6-2, 6-1. In doubles play, the No. 3 tandem of Dylan Lehrer / Emme Steinberg won 6-3, 6-4.
In the win over McMahon, Berkowitz won 6-0, 6-1, Hunter Rossetter won 6-1, 6-0, Abby Bandini came out on top 6-1, 6-2 and Kayla Stanley was victorious 6-2, 6-2. In doubles action, Isa Alfageme / Raleigh Sipkin won 6-1, 6-0; Rachel Guzman / Azita Vazhayil won 6-1. 6-3; and Devyn Peffer/ Lehrer cruised 6-0, 6-0.
Against Norwalk, Olivia Lazar won at first singles, 6-2, 6-0, Berkowitz won in the two slot 6-0, 6-0, Gavriloiu won 6-0, 6-0 and Seigner won 6-0, 6-0. In doubles play, Guzman / Aanya Gandhi won 6-0, 6-1; Alfageme / Vazhayil won 6-0, 6-0; and Leher / Steinberg came out on top 6-0, 6-0 as well.
The Wreckers return to action Monday when Stamford visits at 4 p.m.
