WESTPORT–A 43-year-old woman who allegedly shoplifted fragrances from Ulta Beauty in September was arrested in Westport this week while she was free on bail in connection with another theft in Enfield, according to Westport police and court records.
Peggy Inesti of Springfield, Mass., allegedly stole $1,726 worth of merchandise from the Westport store at 1365 Post Road East on Sept 6. While a partner created a distraction, Inesti “began grabbing various bottles of fragrances and testers from the shelves and placing them in a tote bag,” Westport police said.
She and her partner left without paying, police said.
The theft went undetected at the time and was reported on Nov. 3, when store management discovered it during a review of surveillance video.
“Through information sharing with other agencies investigating similar crimes in their jurisdictions, Inesti was developed as a suspect in this incident,” Westport police said. “An arrest warrant was sought and granted for her in connection with this investigation.”
Inesti turned herself in to Westport police on Monday.
By then, she had been charged with another theft on Halloween in Enfield. In that incident, she was charged with fifth and sixth-degree larceny, fifth and sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, and illegal possession of a shoplifting device.
She was released from Hartford Community Court on $500 bail and is next due in court on Monday.
In Westport, she is charged with fourth-degree larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny. She was released on $50,000 bail and is due in Stamford Superior Court on Dec. 8.
