WESTPORT – The Westport Little League presented four players this month with the Perrin Ryan Delorey Sportsmanship Award. The winners and nominees were announced prior to the championship games held on June 7.
June marks the seven-year anniversary of the passing of Perrin, a kind and enthusiastic Little League player who treated his teammates, opponents and coaches with respect.
An avid athlete in three sports, Perrin Delorey was a fourth-grader at Greens Farms School when he was killed at age 10 in a car accident in June 2018 in Cooperstown, N.Y. during a family visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Perrin embraced the team player concept by lifting other players’ spirits when needed and always cheering on his teammates, according to Mike Vizzo, of Westport Little League.
The players honored with this year’s award are: Majors – Sam Katz; AAA – Benjamin Gionfriddo; AA – Rivington Hall; and A – Finnegan McDuffie.
A plaque on a bench at Kowalski field dedicated in Perrin’s honor is inscribed with his quote: “Take a deep breath and do your best.”
