WESTPORT – The Yankee Doodle Fair is taking over a portion of Imperial Avenue this weekend, bringing fun to residents but also some traffic concerns to those driving through the area.

Drivers are asked by local police to be cautious this weekend due to extra traffic for the fair, sponsored by The Westport Woman’s Club at 44 Imperial Ave.

The event will take place this Thursday through Sunday. Hours are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday; from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday; and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The municipal parking lot on Imperial Avenue will be closed to the public from Tuesday through Sunday to accommodate for setting up and taking down of the carnival attractions.

Residents and drivers can expect traffic congestion and temporary delays in the downtown area during the event.

Police remind attendees that parking for the event is not allowed on either Thomas Road or Imperial Avenue. Those traveling through the area are asked to be cautious because of increased pedestrian traffic.
