WESTPORT — Staples baseball team was held to one hit in a 3-0 loss to St. Joseph of Trumbull in Saturday’s FCIAC tournament quarterfinal game.

The No. 6 Cadets were led by the pitching of Harry Jones, who surrendered only a Jake Goldshore single along with three walks and two hit batters. Jones struck out nine.

Staples pitcher Kai Nee allowed three earned runs on five hits. He also walked five and struck out 10 in five innings of work. Bruce Schlegelmilch also tossed two hitless frames for the Wreckers, walking one and fanning two batters.

After being ousted from the FCIAC tourney, Staples will be aiming to bounce back in the upcoming state playoffs.
