GREENWICH — The Staples High baseball team’s 5-0 win at Greenwich on Friday was not just another victory for the Wreckers. It marked Coach Jack McFarland’s 300th career win.

“Feels great to get 300. It takes great players, great assistant coaches and great support from the Town to run a successful program,” said McFarland.

Since joining the program in 2005, McFarland has guided the Wreckers to four FCIAC Championships and a pair of state titles, while also helping numerous Wreckers earn conference and state level accolades.

Five former Wreckers have also been drafted by Major League Baseball since 2010.

In 2019, McFarland was recognized by the FCIAC as Coach of the Year as well as Spring Coach of the Year and Coach of the Year for All Sports.

Friday’s milestone victory was highlighted by Jake Goldshore’s two hits, including a home run, and three runs batted in, and Jack Farnen’s triple and two runs batted in. Cooper Brundige had two hits, including a double and an RBI, and Max Jossen recorded a double and scored two runs.

Starting pitcher Kai Nee went six strong innings for the win.

Staples was coming off a hard-fought 7-6 loss to Darien at home Wednesday. Noah Saed drove in two runs in that matchup as the Wreckers battled back with two runs in the seventh inning but still fell short.
