WESTPORT — “Below Surface,” a documentary where health and heart are “pooled” in a Westport community of caring, will be screened Monday at the Westport Library.
The film, chronicling Aquafit classes at the Westport Weston Family YMCA, will be screened at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.
The free program also will include a panel discussion of fitness, longevity and staying connected to community. To register in advance, click here.
The short documentary follows water-fitness classes led by YMCA instructor Patty Kondub, which include multigenerational and multicultural participants, illustrating “how kindness and caring for others, combined with exercise, can be an antidote for grief, stress and physical illness,” according to a publicity release.
After the screening, the documentary and related topics will be discussed by a panel that, in addition to Kondub, will include: Dr. Mary Lake Polan, an executive producer of the film; Dr. Robert Altbaum, recently retired internal medicine physician; Dr. Linda P. Fried, dean of Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health; Maria Allen, president of the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging, and Moishi Moses, vice president of volunteerism for the AARP Foundation.
