WESTPORT — A New Jersey woman faces charges in the latest in a series of recent arrests made in connection with the forgery of checks stolen from the mail locally.
Rosimer Martinez-Castillo, 27, of Elizabeth, N.J., was charged Jan. 29 with third-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery.
Police launched an investigation on Dec. 29, 2021, after receiving a report that a check, written for $560 and placed in the mail from the complainant’s home, apparently was stolen, forged for $5,500 and deposited in an unknown bank account.
Martinez-Castillo was identified as the suspect by investigators using search warrants, video-surveillance recordings and information shared with other law-enforcement agencies, police said.
A warrant for the arrest of Martinez-Castillo was issued. After learning she was being held at the Middlesex County Correctional Facility in New Jersey, a Westport police detective was dispatched Jan. 29 to take her into custody.
Martinez-Castillo was transported to Westport, where she was formally charged and held on $50,000 bond. She was arraigned the next day at state Superior Court in Stamford.

Does anyone else think it odd that so many individuals engaged in criminal activity are from New York and other states. What is the connection? Our police seem to be doing a very good job of tracking them down and arresting them. That makes me wonder why they are coming here when laws are much more lax in N.Y.
Should we build a wall and make New York pay for it?
What a clever comment! Maybe if we had a wall on our border we would have less if this. God, you are such a bore.
Long may the Wylie Women of Westport whine and opine!
Unlike you apparently, I think it is important to take note of negative trends and point them out to people. Then also remind them that their votes have consequences and if they are not happy with the trend they may want to reconsider the support they have been giving to feckless, dishonest politicians. From what I’ve heard from you I could remark that the sun rises in the East and be met with a moronic argument from you.
