WESTPORT — A multi-colored crosswalk, symbolizing the range of inclusion in the LGBTQ community, now shines brightly downtown.
The new “Rainbow Crosswalk,” a project initiated by Westport Pride, was installed Monday as a permanent replacement for a temporary version at the intersection of Jesup Road and Taylor Place.
A ceremony to dedicate the crosswalk will take place on “National Coming Out Day,” set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11. Officials, project donors and advocates are scheduled to “unveil this symbol of inclusivity” at the event, according to Westport Pride.
The newly installed crosswalk, approved by the Board of Selectwomen in June, supplants the temporary rainbow feature installed by volunteers prior to the annual Westport Pride celebration earlier that month. Visit the Westport Pride website to learn more about the Rainbow Crosswalk project.
