WESTPORT — “Like a moth to a flame …” head over to the “Moth Ball” on July 14 at Earthplace.

The moth-themed event is planned from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the nature center, 10 Woodside Lane. There is no admission fee; register by clicking here.

The all-ages Moth Ball will include a costume contest, with prizes, for categories such as best caterpillar, most realistic, best couple/group, best makeup, funniest and best overall.

Naturalists will lead attendees in “lightsheeting,” also called mothing, which involves attracting moths and other flying insects to an illuminated sheet or other surface. They will help identify various moth species and explain their presence in the local habitat.
