WESTPORT — The No. 2 seed Staples High boys lacrosse team edged No. 3 Darien, 9-8, in the Class L State Tournament semifinals in Westport on Friday

Leo Sequenzia had three goals and an assist, Adam Udell registered two goals and one assist, Ben Burmeister scored twice, Gavin Rothenberg and Sam Eigen both had a goal, and Tristan Schaefer logged an assist.

Goaltender Josh Marcus made 12 saves. Jay Anastasi won 16 of 21 faceoffs.

With the win, the Wreckers will take on top seed Fairfield Prep in the championship game at Sacred Heart University. (The tourney bracket does not list a specific date/time for the game, but the CIAC listed a 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, slot in a press release about semifinal games postponed because of air-quality issues.)
