WESTPORT — Sparked by school record-setting (and tying) performances by Tyler Clark, the No. 2 Staples High boys’ lacrosse team crushed No. 7 Glastonbury, 19-4, in the Class L State Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday.
Clark registered seven points in the game, with three goals and four assists, and tied the single-season assist record with 45 and now holds the record for most career assists in staples history.
With the win, the Wreckers will take on FCIAC foe Darien, the No. 3 seed, in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfield University.
Staples posted 19 goals for the second straight state tourney game after pounding Hall 19-3 in the first round.
Gavin Rothenberg had three goals and an assist, Leo Sequenzia two goals and one assist, Adam Udell one goal and two assists, Ben Burmeister and Owen Bessey both had a goal and one assist and Dixon Scherer scored two goals.
Sam Eigen, Tristan Schaefer, Aaron Kail and Arthur Skatoff all had goals. Mike Nealon and Tyler DiMaio both had assists.
The winner of Staples-Darien will face either No. 1 Fairfield Prep or No. 4 New Canaan in the Saturday, June 10, championship game at Sacred Heart University (time to be determined).
