WESTPORT — A 40-year-old man was arrested on a weapons charge plus a string of motor-vehicle offenses after a traffic stop last week on Post Road East, and two of his passengers were taken into custody on unrelated charges.
Juan Velasco, of Bridgeport, was charged Oct. 12 with having weapons in a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with his license under suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of a license plate, failure to display license plates and failure to wear a seat belt in the front seat.
Velasco was pulled over by an officer on patrol for a motor vehicle violation about 8:25 p.m. Oct. 12, police said. The officer, in addition to spotting drug paraphernalia “in plain view,” according to the police report, also found “a pair of homemade nunchucks.”
A passenger in the car, Robert Konigsberg, 57, of Bridgeport, was wanted on four outstanding warrants for failure to appear, police said. Another passenger, who was not identified, was sought on a warrant issued by the Torrington Police Department, according to the report.
Velasco was arrested and held on $5,000 for arraignment on the charges the next day at state Superior Court in Stamford.
Konigsberg, held on $2,000 bond for four counts of second-degree failure to appear, was arraigned the next day at the same courthouse.
