Platt, a 1989 graduate of Staples High School, will talk about covering that event and his career as a staff photographer for Getty Images, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, in the library’s Trefz Forum.

The free program will take place both in person and live-streamed online. To register for an in-person ticket, click here; to sign up to watch online, click here.

Platt, whose career has seen him photograph events around the world, shared this year’s Pulitzer breaking-news photography award with four Getty colleagues for their coverage of protesters storming the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to block congressional validation of Electoral College results of the 2020 presidential election.

After Staples, Platt attended Clark University and has been a staff news photographer for Getty Images for more than 20 years. He is based in New York City.

In 2006, he won the World Press “Photo of the Year” for an image taken of sectarian fighting in Lebanon. In 2021, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for team coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
