WESTPORT–Staples girls soccer earned an important 2-0 win over visiting Brien McMahon on Thursday. Alexa Van Aken and Toni Rizza had the goals and Emme Dorfman and Neave Mulvey tallied assists.

With the win, the Wreckers — who have clinched an FCIAC Tournament berth — improve to 7-4-2, matching McMahon’s mark in the conference standings. With the tiebreaker advantage, Staples is in fifth place. The Wreckers have a chance to bolster their positioning in their final two conference games but are chasing fourth-place Ridgefield (four points ahead and owners of the tiebreaker over Staples).

After a scheduled Saturday visit to defending South-West Conference Champion Notre Dame Prep in Fairfield at 2:45 p.m., the Wreckers close out the regular slate with games at home against Wilton on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 22 at Darien at 6. Wilton is 3-6-3 and Darien 4-7-1.
