John M. Prenderville Jr., age 66 of Westport, beloved husband of Patricia A. (O’Loughlin)

Prenderville, passed away at home on Friday, May 15, 2026 after a very courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Brooklyn, NY to Mary (Byrne) Prenderville and the late John M. Prenderville. John was a proud graduate of Xavier High School in Manhattan, and earned a bachelor’s degree in financial management from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, where he met his wife and began their 47-year story together.

John started his career on Wall Street working in municipal bonds, then as a futures and preferred stock trader and finally as a financial consultant in the US and Europe for Cap Gemini. He then changed course and decided to pursue his passion to coach football. John went on to coach teams from youth league in the Westport PAL, to FCIAC high school as a defensive coordinator, as well as several rewarding seasons with the National Champion SW CT Grizzlies and as a head coach for the Swedish National Football Team in Stockholm. Some of his happiest days were on the field as both a player and coach.

John didn’t have hobbies – he had passions and pursuits to master. He lived by the motto that if you could read and if you practiced, you could learn to do anything from plumbing to car repair. He became a golfer with a 2 handicap, an artist and photographer, a gardener and later in life he taught himself to play guitar.

In addition to his wife and mother, John is survived by his two greatest joys: his loving sons, John M. Prenderville, III and his wife, Erica and Thomas M. Prenderville, and his partner Carol. He will be missed by his siblings, Paul Prenderville and his wife, Lindsey and Maribeth Riley and her husband, Mike; his loving mother-in-law, Harriet O’Dell; his sister-in-law, Ann Bertulli and her husband, Rob; and his aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Michael O’Loughlin.

Friends may greet his family on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Avenue in Westport. Interment will be private.
