WESTPORT — Group training for runners, a new program offered by the Westport Weston Family YMCA in collaboration with the New York Road Runners, will be introduced in September.

The coach-led group training sessions, adapted for runners of all abilities, will take place from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Sept. 12 through Nov. 2, at the Y on Allen Raymond Lane and the Longshore area.

The program marks the first time the New York Road Runners organization has offered group training outside New York City, according to a publicity release.

The group training workouts begin with a warm-up, which includes running technique and ends with a strength and flexibility component, program organizers say. 

The fastest group is for runners who clock a 7:15-mile or faster, while the slowest group is for runners with a 11:30-mile or quicker pace. Runners can move between groups depending on how they feel on a given day and their goals.
