GREENWICH — Take those playoff standings and throw them out the window. The No. 7 Staples baseball team had its way with No. 2 Greenwich in a 15-0 FCIAC Tournament quarterfinal rout on the road Friday.
The Wreckers bashed three homers and also dominated on the mound led by Kai Nee’s five innings of one-hit ball.
With the victory, Staples will take on No. 3 Trumbull in Monday’s semifinals at Stamford’s Cubeta Stadium; first pitch is at 6:30 p.m.

In Friday’s win, Jules Cicero hit his first homer of the season, Jake Goldshore went deep for the second time, both against GHS, and Noah Saed powered one out of the yard.
Cooper Brundige, Andrew Oppenheimer and Goldshore all had doubles. Saed and Goldshore each drove in three runs and Jack Farnen knocked in two.
This was Staples’ second significant win over Greenwich this spring — Coach Jack McFarland earned his 300th career victory against the Cardinals in a regular-season contest.
Staples played its final home game of the regular season when St. Joseph of Trumbull visited Monday.
In that game, Staples jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to a 10-2 triumph, highlighted by Max Jossen’s grand slam.
Cicero had two hits, two walks, and a pair of runs scored. Luke Oakley had two hits and an RBI. Goldshore had a hit and two runs batted in, and Oppenheimer doubled in. Nee struck out 10 batters for the win.
The Wreckers were edged 7-6 at Danbury the next day. Cole Landgraf had a hit and drove in three runs. Goldshore had three hits, including a double. Oakley and Farnen both recorded two hits.
The regular slate ended Thursday with a 3-0 setback to Westhill of Stamford, at Brien McMahon of Norwalk, in a makeup game.
Despite that blanking, the Wreckers turned on the power switch for their tournament debut Friday. They will look for more of the same as the playoffs continue. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
