WESTPORT — No. 5 Staples boys lacrosse team defeated FCIAC foe and No. 12 seed Trumbull 19-3 at home in Wednesday’s Class LL State Tournament second round game.
With the win, the Wreckers earn a trip to Ridgefield — another conference rival ranked No. 4 — for the quarterfinals at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
In the win over Trumbull a trio of Wreckers netted hat-tricks as Adam Udell, Charlie Clark and Will Fleming all hit the back of the net three times. Fleming added two assists.
Tristan Schaefer and Avery Mueller both had two goals and an assist, Justin Halky and Nick Weil both scored twice, Jake Davis notched a goal and an assist and Hunter Pallai scored once.
Tyler DiMaio, Liam Donaldson, Timmy Herold and Jay Anastasi all had assists.
Goaltender Aidan Parnes made two saves. Eric Skolnick had seven faceoff wins and Jake Davis won five draws.
