WESTPORT — The Staples girls tennis team aced the week with a victory trifecta, winning each match by a 7-0 score.
The Wreckers defeated host Norwalk on Monday, topped visiting Stamford Tuesday, before hitting the road and winning a makeup match with Brien McMahon of Norwalk on Wednesday. Only wet weather dampened the team’s momentum by postponing Thursday’s match against a tough Darien squad, which has a 4-0 record.
In the singles lineup, top player Amelia Berkowitz, who has settled in nicely as a freshman, No. 2 Sadie Yanks, No. 3 Sarah Marron and No. 4 Rachel Guzman have all performed well.
The doubles lineup has been led by the top tandem of Lola Lamensdorf and Rhiya Anand. At second doubles, Isabel Alfageme has been paired with different partners including Maddie Hendley, Dylan Lehrer and Bridget Menninger. The third doubles duo of Chloe Francis and Emma Kantor has also been solid.
Highlights from the McMahon match include Berkowitz beating her No. 1 singles counterpart Maria Gutierrez 6-1, 6-2, and Anand and Lamensdorf prevailing against Ashlee Coloma and Zola Halamana 6-0, 6-1.
Staples has an overall 5-1 record for the season, with the only loss so far against New Canaan. The Wreckers are scheduled to visit Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. Monday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
