WESTPORT — A Staples High School swimmer is competing in the World Aquatics Junior Championships this week as a member of Team USA.

Annam Olasewere, a junior who competes with the Staples Swim and Dive Team, is among the more than 600 athletes participating in the competition in Netanya, Israel, from Sept. 4-9.

As a member of Team USA, Olasewere is scheduled to compete in the finals heat of the 50-meter freestyle Saturday morning (Westport time). She is third going into the final heat with a time of 24.95 secs.

Staples swim team supporters plan to gather at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Westport Library to watch a broadcast of Olasewere competing. The community is invited.

Olasewere, the only Connecticut swimmer on Team USA at the junior championships, previously achieved two Olympic trial cuts in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events. She plans to compete at the U.S. Olympic trials in Indianapolis next June.
