WESTPORT — Staples boys golf team teed off for three matches in as many days this week and won two, defeating visiting Fairfield Warde and host Weston, before falling at home to Darien.
The Wreckers, in Wednesday’s match with Darien at Longshore Golf Course, came up short as Darien shot 146 and the Wreckers tallied 151.
Staples freshman Jordan Benaderet carded a 36, just behind medalist Matthew West, who had a 35 to lead Darien.
The host Wreckers were victorious 144-156 over Warde in the first match of the week Monday.
Gus Palmer shot a 33, two under par, two lead the way. Phillip Sullivan, George Targowski and Chris Taylor all recorded a 37 and Benaderet had a 38 for a balanced showing across the scorecard.
On Tuesday, the Wreckers traveled out of the FCIAC to take on South-West Conference foe Weston at Aspetuck Country Club and won 165-177. Sullivan earned medalist status with a 39 to pace the Wreckers.
Staples golfers are slated to visit New Canaan at 3:15 p.m. Friday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
