NORWALK — The visiting Staples High girls basketball team earned a 52-29 win over Brien McMahon on Friday.

The Wreckers led 23-11 at halftime and pulled away for a 37-19 lead through three quarters of play.

Sarah VonDohlen led Staples with 21 points, connecting on a trio of 3-pointers along the way.

Marley Belzer and Chloe Smith both scored eight. Freya Harvey scored five points, Ella Harrington and Maya Brody both registered four points, and Poppy Harrington tacked on two.

Win or lose, the Wreckers have been competitive of in recent games, with a win followed by two hard-fought setbacks leading up to Friday’s victory. 

Staples beat Westhill 63-20 on Jan. 3, fell 38-37 to Ridgefield on Jan. 5, and lost 55-50 to New Canaan in overtime Jan. 9.

Staples returns to action at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, with a visit to Norwalk (weather permitting). The next home game is at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, against Stamford. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
