WESTPORT–Host Staples High football was blanked by unbeaten New Canaan 28-0 on Friday night. The Wreckers fell to 5-3 and the Rams improved to 8-0.
New Canaan quarterback Maddox Hoffman threw a pair of touchdown passes and Henry Stein carried the ball 20 times for 148 yards and a pair of scores.
Staples will visit Fairfield Ludlowe (also 5-3; ranked ninth in Class L and competing for one of the top eight Class L playoff spots) Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
Staples is fourth in Class LL and still in good shape for a postseason berth but looking to hang onto a high enough ranking to earn a quarterfinal home contest. After visiting Ludlowe, the Wreckers close out the regular slate Thanksgiving Day at Greenwich (6-2; third in Class LL) at 10 a.m.
