WESTPORT — Some games are easy, some are not.

That was the case for the Staples High field hockey team, following up three consecutive shutouts — one a nail-biter — with an overtime thriller Friday.

Coach Ian Tapsall’s Wreckers crushed visiting Danbury 10-0 on Oct. 12. Sofia Fidalgo, Oakley Wilson and Alex Hackett each scored twice. Maya Sherman notched her first varsity goal. Charlotte Strange, Emma Larit and Adela Ardrey also found the back of the cage.

Assists were recorded by Tyla Ozgen, with four, along with Sherman, Mary Stevens, Fidalgo and Eve Dolan.

The Wreckers traveled to Fairfield Ludlowe on Oct. 17 and pulled out a 1-0 win as Hackett recorded the lone goal.

Then came a 4-0 blanking of host Stamford on Thursday. Larit scored twice, and Ardrey and Storey Ahl scored. Fidalgo and Strange had assists.

On Friday, Staples hosted Greenwich and pulled out a 2-1 overtime win. Larit scored in regulation and Fidalgo had the OT winner.

The final regular-season game is coming up Tuesday, Oct. 24, when the Wreckers visit Ridgefield at 5 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
