NEWTOWN — Staples boys basketball team, with two victories in as many games, has started the regular season on a roll.
Staples, following a 73-61 win over Xavier of Middletown at home Dec. 17, beat host Newtown 75-52 Monday night.
The Wreckers head into the Pomperaug of Southbury Holiday Tournament (Dec. 27-28) clicking on all cylinders.

Sam Clachko scored 26 points to lead the offense. Adam Udell tallied 13, Matthew Corrigan had eight and Mason Tobias added seven.
The Wreckers led just 21-20 after one high-scoring quarter of play and held Newtown to four points in the second quarter and built a 34-25 halftime lead.
Staples poured in 29 third-quarter points to pull ahead 63-35 heading to the fourth.
Strong, turnover-causing defense led to the pull-away.
Clachko had four 3-pointers in the game, including one off a Staples free throw miss, following a make, for a four-point trip down the court late in the third.
Udell and Corrigan each connected on a pair of 3-pointers, and Dhilan Lowman and Kyle Dulak also hit 3-pointers in the win.
The Wreckers got contributions from up and down the bench with 10 players registering points.
