WESTPORT — Coming off a run to the Division II State Championship game last season, the Staples High boys basketball team looks forward to continued success on the hardwood as a new season gets underway.
“Main goal is to get better every day, focus on staying in the process and allow the results to take care of themselves,” Coach David Goldshore said.
In order for his team to thrive, Goldshore wants the Wreckers to “buy in to stay true to our core culture and basketball values.”
Captains are seniors Caleb Smith and Nick Sikorski, junior Adam Udell and sophomore Sam Clachko.
Other key team members are senior Andy Cerrito, juniors Charlie Bowman, Nathan Smith, Andrew Oppenheimer and Brady Dennett, and sophomores Mason Tobias and Jack Jacob.
There are no easy nights on the court, although some will be tougher than others between challenging FCIAC rivals and some non-conference foes on the slate.
“Every night is going to be a tough matchup. We are focused on our opener versus Newtown on Dec. 18 [home at 7 p.m.],” Goldshore said.
The Wreckers’ first conference tilt is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at home against Ridgefield. There is a rematch of the state final when St. Bernard High of Uncasville visits Monday, Jan. 15, also at 7.
