GREENWICH–The Staples football team went to Greenwich on Thursday and fell to the Cardinals, 33-19.

The Wreckers finished up the regular season with a 5-5 record while Greenwich improved to 8-2. This outcome sets up a rematch in the Class LL State Playoff quarterfinals as No. 3 Greenwich will again entertain No. 6 Staples when the postseason kicks off Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

In other matchups, No. 1 New Britain hosts No. 8 NFA, No. 2 Fairfield Prep entertains No. 7 Danbury and No. 4 Southington takes on No. 5 Glastonbury.

Quarterfinals across the state were postponed a day due to mixed forecasts; as a result the semis, originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7, are now Monday, Dec. 8.
