WESTPORT–The Staples boys soccer team had the edge in position, possession and rhythm. But New Canaan’s lockdown defense made life difficult for the Wreckers last night.
Marius Ekeberg’s 19th-minute close-in goal, off a header from Reese Watkins, and Murilo Moreno’s penalty kick powered the Westporters to a 2-1 win, at Dunning Stadium. A Ram penalty kick seven minutes from time energized the hosts, but Staples managed the match intelligently to the end.
The Wreckers are now 2-0-0. They welcome Greenwich to Staples’ Loeffler Field this Saturday (11:30 a.m.), in one of the key matchups of the young FCIAC season.
