WESTPORT — Tuesday’s boys soccer match at Loeffler Field promised to be a great one. The weather was perfect for a clash between the top two teams in the FCIAC: 9-1-2 Norwalk, and 8-1-3 Staples.
Will Adams struck the game-winner in the 32nd minute. He volleyed home a pass from defender Bruno Guiduli, who picked up a loose ball and roared forward.
The Wreckers came out pressing the Bears’ back, linking passes, and firing shots on goal. Matt Shackelford and Reese Watkins applied pressure. Behind them Murilo Moreno, Dylan Hoke and Jaden Mueller made their mark at midfield.
The back four of Guiduli, Jackson Hochhauser, Hunter Smith and Caleb Tobias were tested in the final 20 minutes, but – with keeper Jacob Greenberger behind them – came up strong.

Staples – now the league leader – has two regular season games remaining. They host Brien McMahon on Friday (4 p.m.), then travel to Fairfield Ludlowe for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday. The FCIAC playoffs begin three days later.
