WESTPORT — The Building Department has issued a permit to demolish the house at 8 Tar Rock Road.
In June 2023, the homeowner asked the Historic District Commission for approval to tear down the house.
The HDC voted unanimously to uphold the 180-day delay on a demolition permit that applies to all houses more than 50 years old. That request triggered concern that the neighborhood’s Revolutionary War history would be affected by the demolition. The delay period expired in December.
The two-story Colonial was built in 1940. It has 2,100 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a basement area, a crawl space, an enclosed porch, an in-ground pool and a finished upper story.
The property traded hands in May 2023 for $890,000, and its current assessment is $570,400.
Tar Rock Road is off Compo Road South.
