WESTPORT–Patrick Riddle, a paramedic crew chief with Westport Emergency Medical Services (EMS), has been promoted to deputy director of the EMS, the Westport Police Department announced today.

The appointment fills the vacancy created when Marc Hartog retired after having served in the role since 2010.

Riddle brought more than two decades of experience in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut when he joined the Westport EMS last year. His career in the EMS system began in 2002 as a volunteer in New City, N.Y. Three years later, he became a licensed paramedic serving in Newark and Jersey City, N.J.

He also worked at the Hackensack University Medical Center as a field paramedic, paramedic field Instructor. There he was named EMS Provider of the Year in 2008, “receiving three commendations for meritorious service while working alongside the Hackensack Police Department,” Westport police said.

In 2010, Riddle began a new career with American Medical Response in Bridgeport, Westport police said. He served as a field training officer and paramedic field Instructor until 2022, when he became a paramedic for Norwalk Hospital. He held that position until joining Westport EMS.

Riddle attended the University of Dallas and served in the United States Navy during the Persian Gulf War.

“He is a loving father of four and a grandfather to one,” the police department said. “A martial arts instructor, Riddle has an affinity for physical fitness and general wellness.”

As Westport EMS Deputy Director, Riddle will be responsible for operational management, clinical and quality assurance and a variety of administrative tasks. The position also entails field work in emergency response and oversight, as well as service as a community liaison.
