WESTPORT — One person was hospitalized after a fire erupted in the garage of a Tarone Drive home Friday afternoon.
The, fire, reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday, apparently began in the home’s attached garage, but firefighters were able to prevent flames from spreading to the main structure, according to a report by Assistant Fire Chief Brett Kirby.
All of the home’s occupants were able to leave the dwelling by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
But one person reportedly suffered an injury and was transported for evaluation to Norwalk Hospital by a Westport Volunteer Emergency Services ambulance. That person’s condition was not immediately available.
Engine crews 2, 4, 5 and 6, Truck 1 and the shift commander were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters with Engine 4, the first to arrive, stretched a hose to the garage area and launched an “aggressive attack” on the blaze, the report states. Water supply, from a hydrant “some distance away,” was set up by the Engine 5 crew.

Meanwhile, other firefighters assisted operations and began searching the premises to make sure no one else remained inside and the fire did not spread.
Norwalk firefighters provided assistance at Tarone Drive, while fire crews from Fairfield and Wilton provided mutual-aid coverage for the rest of town while Westport crews were at the scene.
The last fire unit cleared the scene about 5:15 p.m. Friday.
Cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
