WESTPORT — Masked thieves wielding sledgehammers shattered display cases at a downtown jewelry store and stole an “unknown quantity” of merchandise Thursday afternoon, police said.
The burglary took place at the Lux Bond & Green jewelry store, 136 Main St., about 3:10 p.m. Thursday, according to the report.
Two masked individuals entered the store, began smashing display cases and scooping up jewelry, as employees retreated to the rear of the store.
There was no physical contact between the thieves and the employees, police said.
The suspects fled from the store onto Elm Street, jumped into a black BMW sedan and were last seen heading east on Post Road East toward Fairfield.
Anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts or the burglary incident is asked to call the Police Detective Bureau at 203-341-6080.

I am so sorry the owners and employees of Lux Bond and Green were victims of this horrifying crime … and extremely thankful no one was physically harmed.
I am further shaken knowing my husband was walking our dog on Main Street around this same time.
As our our thriving beautiful downtown becomes “A Destination” of the New York TriState area, we must acknowledge there is a price to pay for such stature.
It takes me 7-10 minutes to drive through downtown and another 15 or more to get to Fairfield. There are cameras everywhere and police presumably positioned around town. How were these guys not caught while fleeing?
The WPD might rethink positioning an officer at the Willowbrook Cemetery. to catch drivers going 31 mph in a 30 mph zone It seems a more productive use of that officer’s time might be to sit on Main St.. In addition to this heist, I suspect it might serve as a deterrent to 5 finger discounts at the lux boutiques.
On 4/19/2024 three hammer wielding masked men smashed the glass display cases at 1 pm at the Kay’s jewelry store at the Trumbull Mall. The thieves fled with thousands of dollars in jewelry and have yet to be apprehended.
This week’s target was our own Lux,Bond & Green. What astounds me is both these brazen heists occured in the early afternoon, the thieves escaped and have yet to be caught.
So while we are fighting the redesign of Parker Harding , killing magnificent 400 year old trees to put up a parking lot on Jesup Green to accomodate shoppers on Main, ask yourself do you now feel as safe as you did a week ago?
These masked men aren’t the Pink Panther yet we are brought to our knees to discover how vulnerable we truly are in this new society where robbers can elude the PD at 1 pm and 3 pm. So before we change paradise to put up a parking lot, let’s take a breath and see how this all shakes out.
