WESTPORT — Firefighters were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to investigate a possible propane-gas tank leak at a house construction site on Deletta Lane.
The incident, reported shortly after 1:30 p.m., prompted the dispatch of Engine 4, Engine 6, Truck 1 and the shift commander, according to a report from Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.
When Engine 4 firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a large, in-ground propane tank on its side. Recent rainfall from Tropical Storm Ida caused the tank to roll on its side, the fire report said.
The tank, although full of propane, was not leaking, according to hazmat technicians at the scene.
To ensure there was no active threat, fire crews metered nearby residences and eliminated ignition sources in the area.
Eversource and Westport EMS personnel also were on scene, as well as a propane contractor.
The last fire unit left the scene at 3:12 p.m., according to the report.
