WESTPORT — The driver of a rental truck, who police said struck a car at Parker-Harding Plaza but left the scene without notifying anyone, has been arrested.
Alexander Zegibe, 38, of Stamford, was charged Aug. 1 with evading responsibility in connection with the May accident.
Officers were dispatched to the downtown parking lot shortly before 6:30 p.m. May 6 to investigate what was reported as a “minor” motor vehicle accident after a Budget rental truck hit a car and then left the scene, police said.
The officer investigating the crash later determined the truck had been rented by Zegibe. According to the police report, Zegibe admitted that he was driving the truck in Westport that day, but “did not specifically admit to being in an accident.”
A warrant for Zegibe’s arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody Aug. 1 by Stamford police.
After being turned over to Westport police, Zegibe was charged and later released after posting $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 10 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
