WESTPORT — Police launched an investigation into a local student’s report of “a disturbing social media post” early Monday, but determined no threat was posed before classes got underway later Monday morning.
Classes proceeded without disruption, Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarice said.
The student, who reported the social media post to police about 7:15 a.m. Monday, was considering not going to school because the content of the message was so concerning, according to the police report.
Police immediately notified school officials, Scarice said.
By 8 a.m. Monday, police were able to identify the source of the social media post, according to the report, and “working with the school resource officer and the Detective Bureau, we were able to identify the person responsible,” police said.
After the social media poster was located, investigators said they were able to determine no danger was posed by the message.
Contents of the social media post were not disclosed.
Scarice said additional police officers will be assigned to the town’s schools for the remainder of Monday, “but we have no reason to believe that any concerns related to this morning’s incident remain.”
