WESTPORT — Two men face charges in connection with a scheme to illegally “manufacture” checks in the name of a Westport man and then depositing the fraudulent checks into their bank accounts for personal use.

Marquis Reshard, 19, of New Haven, was charged April 4 with second-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, first-degree identity theft and criminal impersonation.

Brandion Sessions, 32, of Hamden, was charged April 8 with conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, first-degree identity theft and criminal impersonation.

Police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a resident Jan. 26 that three checks, with his name and bank account information, had been manufactured illegally and deposited into bank accounts other than his own.

The fraudulent deposits subsequently were used by the accused to make purchases, according to the report.

One of the checks was made out “Marquis Reshard,” police said, but the complainant told officers he never wrote a check to anyone by that name and did not even recognize the name.

Another of the checks was made out to “Brandion Sessions,” who the complainant also said he did not know and had never written a check to a person by that name.

The detective investigating the case determined the check made out to Marquis Reshard was deposited into Reshard’s bank account at a Key Bank branch in New Haven, according to the report.

The investigation also found the check made out to Brandion Sessions was deposited into Sessions’ bank account at a TD Bank branch in Hamden, police said.

After additional evidence was gathered, arrest warrants for both men were issued.

Reshard turned himself in April 4 at Police Department headquarters. He was released after posting $25,000 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned April 14 at state Superior Court in Stamford.

Sessions was taken into custody April 8 by East Haven police and turned over to Westport police. He was released after posting $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned April 19 at Superior Court in Stamford.
