WESTPORT — A New York man faces a series of charges after he was accused of stealing a local resident’s identity and trying to illegally withdraw money from that person’s bank account, police said.

David McMillian, 60, of New York City, N.Y., was charged March 20 with third-degree identity theft, criminal attempt to commit third-degree larceny and illegal possession of a personal identification information device.

Police last Nov. 7 received a complaint from a resident who reported that he was alerted by his bank to “suspicious activity” in his accounts. He closed the accounts immediately, and reported the incident to police.

After launching an investigation, police used recordings of video surveillance, search warrants and information shared with other law-enforcement agencies to identify David McMillian as the suspect, according to the report.

McMillian was arrested at state Superior Court in Stamford on March 20, and held on $150,000 bond. He is scheduled to next appear in court on the charges May 9, according to court records.
