WESTPORT — A New York man has been charged with trying to use fraudulent identification to illegally obtain a debit card from a local bank.

Edward Pacheco, 51, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged with third-degree identity theft in connection with the incident.

Police received a report about 2 p.m. Dec. 6 from the TD Bank office on Main Street that a man was attempting to use a fake driver’s license to secure a debit card tied to an account that had been closed.

Pacheco was placed under arrest, formally charged and released after posting $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 20 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
