WESTPORT — A Wilton man, facing charges of splattering cars with paintballs on Post Road East a few days before last Christmas, is implicated in similar attacks in area communities.
Nicholas Trichilo, 20, was charged Jan. 18 with second-degree breach of peace, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree criminal mischief.
The first paintball attack was reported to police last Dec. 21 by a person sitting in a car parked at the McDonald’s restaurant, 701 Post Road East, who said the vehicle was hit by a “pink” paintball.
A short time later, a man getting into a car parked at 940 Post Road East reported that his vehicle was struck by several pink paintballs.
While only vehicles were hit in the two Westport incidents, local police said a person was struck by paintballs in Fairfield shortly afterward.
And on Dec. 23, Darien police alerted law-enforcement in nearby communities that a suspect had been charged with shooting paintballs at a person in their town.
Westport police, using information shared by police in those towns as well as video-surveillance footage, identified Nicholas Trichilo and an unnamed juvenile as suspects in the local paintball attacks.
A warrant for Trichilo’s arrest was issued, and on Jan. 18 he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters. Trichilo was released after posting a combined bond of $70,000 and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 7 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
