WESTPORT — A Milford woman was driving under the influence when she drove over a local home’s lawn, striking a fence and lamp post, and then fled the scene earlier this year, police said.
Catherine Grabarz, 68, was charged May 2 with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and evading responsibility (hit-and-run) in connection with the incident.
Police were dispatched to the scene of an accident near the intersection of Bradley Street and Compo Road South about 7:25 p.m. last Jan. 26.
Officers were told that a black vehicle drove through a nearby yard, crashing into a fence and lamp post, and drove off.
A short time later, according to the report, the vehicle was found at Compo Beach, where the driver — identified as Catherine Grabarz — appeared to be intoxicated.
Suffering from what police described as “minor” injuries, Grabarz was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigation into the incident, using witness statements and search warrants, confirmed that Grabarz was the driver who drove through the yard and that she was intoxicated at the time.
A warrant for her arrest was issued, and she turned herself in May 2 at Police Department headquarters. Grabarz was released after posting $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned May 19 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
