WESTPORT — A Stamford driver who rear-ended another vehicle on Greens Farms Road earlier this year was recently charged with a series of offenses in connection with the collision, including driving while intoxicated.
Dickerson Jean-Baptiste, 37, in addition to facing the DUI allegation, was charged Aug. 23 with following too closely, failure to obey a stop sign, illegal operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.
On Jan. 27, police were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. to investigate a motor vehicle accident, with injuries, at Greens Farms Road and Hales Court.
The officer investigating the crash, after determining the reported injuries were minor, learned that Jean-Baptiste was heading east on Greens Farms Road, failed to stop for a stop sign at Hales Court and struck the rear of a vehicle that had just begun to move through the intersection.
Jean-Baptiste, questioned by the officer at the scene, was “acting very emotional, unable to explain how the crash happened,” while an alcoholic odor also was detected, according to the report.
Asked to perform a field sobriety test, Jean-Baptiste instead asked to be taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said. A search warrant later was issued by police for his medical records, and it showed an elevated blood-alcohol content, according to the report.
A warrant for the arrest of Jean-Baptiste was issued, and on Aug. 23, he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters, where he was formally charged.
He was released after posting $10,000 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 6 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
