WESTPORT–A Manchester, Connecticut, man is due in court later this month on charges that he took part in the theft of two cash registers from Westport Auto Repair, 1530 Post Road East, Westport police said.
Rafael Delvalle, 29, was charged Tuesday in Superior Court in Stamford, while in custody on other charges.
The auto shop manager found that the registers, containing $1,000, were missing when he opened the shop on Sept. 14, 2025, police said. The business also suffered $4,800 worth of damage and loss, police said.
Surveillance video captured images of what appeared to be three suspects in total. They pried open the door to the business and tried unsuccessfully to steal the store’s ATM before taking the cash registers, police said.
A Stratford, Connecticut, resident discovered one of the registers in front of her home the same morning, according to police.
“Through an extensive follow up investigation that included information sharing with other agencies investigating similar crimes, the drafting and execution of a search warrant and a review of license plate reader data, Rafael Delvalle was developed as one of the suspects in this incident,” Westport police said in a statement.
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Tuesday, Delvalle was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, all felonies, and with fifth-degree larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, both misdemeanors.
The investigation continues as police continue to search for the other two suspects.
Delvalle also faces three charges stemming from an incident on the same day – Sept. 14, 2025 – in Monroe, Connecticut. Those charges are: third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and two misdemeanors, second-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.
He is being held on $50,000 bail and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on April 24.
