WESTPORT — A Greenwich man is charged with stealing tires and rims from cars parked at the Saugatuck Railroad Station and a Wilton Road garage.

Shawn Oliphant, 39, was arrested in connection with two incidents of tire/rim theft in early July, police said. The charges are third-degree larceny and fourth-degree larceny.

The tires and rims were stolen off a car parked at the rail depot about 3 p.m. July 6, according to the police report.

A similar theft was reported July 7, between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., in the parking garage at 21 Wilton Road.

Local detectives investigating the thefts, in conjunction with police probing similar incidents in area communities, identified Oliphant as a potential suspect, police said.

After additional evidence linked Oliphant to the local thefts, a warrant for his arrest was issued.

He was taken into custody Thursday, and held on $50,000 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges later in the day at Superior Court in Stamford.
