WESTPORT — A Bridgeport man faces charges in connection with break-ins at three local homes late last summer, and stealing tools worth thousands of dollars at one of the properties still under construction.

Vito Badalamenti, 52, has been charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief.

Police said power tools valued in the thousands of dollars were reported stolen last Aug. 30 at a home under construction on Hillspoint Road.

Another break-in was reported Sept. 5 at a Maple Avenue North residence, but nothing was taken, police said.

And a third break-in took place Sept. 9 at a home on Sturges Highway, although nothing was reported stolen, according to the report.

Westport investigators, collaborating with area police departments where similar burglaries had recently taken place, were able to identify a vehicle that apparently was used by a suspect in each of the incidents.

Badalamenti subsequently was identified as the suspect in the series of break-ins, and a search warrant was issued allowing police from another community to seize his cellphone.

Data from his phone was shared with Westport detectives, and reportedly linked Badalamenti to the three local break-ins.

Three separate warrants for Badalamenti’s arrest were issued in connection with the Westport incidents, and he was placed under arrest March 30.

He was held on $15,000 bond and arraigned later that day at state Superior Court in Stamford.
