WESTPORT — Emergency responders from Westport and Fairfield were dispatched to the scene where a tractor-trailer and pickup collided on Interstate 95 Thursday afternoon, causing both vehicles to tumble off the highway and injured at least one driver.
The crash took place about 1:15 p.m. Thursday between I-95’s southbound Exits 19-18 at the Westport/Fairfield border, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.
Both vehicles tumbled down an embankment from the collision’s impact, with the pickup landing on its roof and partially crushed beneath the larger tractor-trailer. The pickup suffered “heavy damage,” the report states.
Westport Fire Engines 5 and 2, Rescue truck 3 and the shift commander all were dispatched to the scene, just over the Fairfield border, where Fairfield emergency crews had already arrived, Meadows said.
Occupants of both trucks were able to exit the wrecks on their own, but firefighters had to hoist at least one of the injured drivers up the highway embankment using a stokes basket and rope system to a waiting ambulance.
Details about how many people were injured and the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
Crews from Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service and AMR were on scene to help treat crash victims.

Traffic control was carried out by State Police troopers.
Westport firefighters cleared the scene about 1:50 p.m., Meadows said, while Fairfield crews remained while the trucks were pulled up the embankment.

Yikes hope everyone is ok. Looked like a nasty accident.
