WESTPORT — Six new firefighters joined the ranks of the Westport Fire Department at a swearing-in ceremony Friday, where they were commended for making a commitment to service.
The rookie firefighters are: Christopher Moore, John Burke, Nicholas South, Eric LaRiviere, Collin Dickinson and Shereef Conjura.
Fire Chief Michael Kronick, who presided at the ceremony, told the six men, “You will train for certainty, and you will educate for uncertainty.
“So don’t be comfortable — keep learning, keep training every day.”
The chief added, “There is nothing more noble than the commitment to the service and protection of our community.
“These new firefighters have made a commitment and, on behalf of the town of Westport, thank you and welcome. Good luck.”
After First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker swore in the firefighters, she said they were joining a “first-class operation and department.”
As firefighters, she said, they will learn that local officials and residents alike consider them “our local heroes.”
