To the Editor:
The Coleytown Company made quite the splash this past weekend with its 25th anniversary production of “The SpongeBob Musical.”
The middle school performers, led by extraordinary director Ben Frimmer, put on what was essentially a professional performance. From the jellyfish made from clear umbrellas and LED lights to the use of pool noodles to mimic sea life to the throne made from a toilet, the recycled scenery was inspiring.
This was complemented by the magnificent costumes, from a four-legged pair of synchronized pants and shoes for Squidward to claws for Mr. Krabs that were so realistic, they had the audience craving lemon-butter dipping sauce.
The student performers earned their standing ovations, with Broadway-ready singing, dancing and acting along with boundless enthusiasm.
The Tech Crew, a group of seventh and eighth graders who created the scenery and props, were also the real stars. This group of students worked with professional designer Jordan Janota and art teacher Linda Kangro to create a magical undersea world from recycled material and trash.
Sincere gratitude is also due to the teachers (Ben Frimmer, Rob Rogers, Linda Kangro, Colleen Quinn and Sarah Webster), professionals (Clay Zambro, Amiee Turner, Chris Coogan, Robin Mazzola) and parents (too many to name, but a shout-out to parent producers Jill Dillon and Pamela Bernstein and technical director Alicia D’Anna), who supported this outstanding production. Special credit to Rogers for his cameo as a Krabby Patty.
“The SpongeBob Musical” and all the wonderful people involved deserve two fins up!
Thank you,
Jordan Razza
